Your BUDDY and Me take a few hours off from the pooches!

Rio dog and Cookie
Welcome to Your BUDDY and ME dog blog post. Wow, what a beautiful day in San Diego. I try not to take for granted how lucky I am to live here. In time, you will learn that I spend my most of my free time riding my motorcycle so today was different. Interesting enough, not that much different, I was able to apply my skills as a dog wrangler and motorcycle rider to horseback riding.

I started the day with a few early morning dog walks and cat visits but still had a few hours free before more dog walks to go horse back riding for the first time in years. I have really wanted to get Rio around horses because we see them all the time at Feista Island and she likes to bark and circle them. I worry about her safety and really wanted to change her behavior in a more controlled environment.
Rio dog & Reno
We packed up and headed over to my friend Zarah's house in Ramona. Rio meets her three cattle dogs, Sheila, Bueford, Kona. and the neighbor's Australian shepard, Reno. They instantly educate her on proper etiquette around horses, my little city girl did extremely well for her first day. I, on the hand have a lot to learn about horses.

I rode Ebony and she quickly tested me. As soon as we got out of the ring, she headed back to her hitching post then proceeded to try to take me over near the carport to see if she could bump me off or scare me enough to dismount. After a few minutes of.....let's say "negotiations" we agreed, I would lead her then we quickly  synced up and went for a ride. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my day. The best part is that "Rio dog & I" are invited back anytime to help with the horses and go horseback riding. I will learn how to saddle the horse, care for them, bathe them and help train them. This has been a dream come to and I so am excited to return.

Special thanks to Zarah, Laurie and Bob!

  1. Sounds like a perfect day. I wonder how Kai would act around a bunch of horses? I would love to go with you one of these days. It's been years since I've been riding as well. Glad you had a great day. I'm sure much deserved.
